This deluxe 1 BR Cottage with queen bed & queen sleeper couch is just 1 1/2 blocks off the best part of world class Kailua beach.
The Cottage is newly renovated with a spacious living room, the master bedroom comes with a queen bed, new pillows, fine linen, new ceiling fan and a large closet.
The bathroom is equipped with a shower, toilet and sink. The shower panel has a built-in rainfall shower head, body spray jet, and a handheld shower wand.
The Living room couch pulls out into a queen bed.
A Smart-TV, Ceiling & stand-up Fan, fast reliable internet and more closet space in the hallway was added for your comfort.
Two other parties live on the property: A family of four with two young children in the main house and a young married couple in the back cottage.
You can cook using the two burner cook top, the microwave, rice cooker, toaster, or enjoy a cup of coffee or espresso. We added a refrigerator and freezer, hand blender, electric water heater plus a washer and dryer for your convenience.
There are several frying pan's plus one large one with a lid, 2 pots and and a very good selection of kitchen tools to prepare a meal. There is a complete set of small and large plates, small and large bowls, several platters, cups, water glasses, wine glasses, smoothie cups, silver ware...

Kailua is a beautiful beach town! With fabulous dining, shopping and activity choices - one never gets bored here. Kailua and Lanikai beach are huge highlights of our town, but there are also amazing eating and unique shopping experiences as well.
The Beach
A long, graceful bay protected by a coral reef is Kailua’s delight. The nearly 4-mile-long stretch of ivory sand is made for strolling, and the weather and wave conditions can be just about perfect for swimming, kayaking, windsurfing and kitesurfing. South along the shore lies the exclusive enclave of Lanikai, with million-dollar views – and mansions to match.
We would recommend a car, however Oahu is known for its amazing bus system with stops that can take you all over the island. Bus stop is just a few hundred feet away.
We ask that you do not smoke inside and please be courteous of noise after 10 PM.
This property is a legally established dwelling that is rented for periods of 30 consecutive days or more at any one time regardless of actual occupancy.

Collected money is non-refundable unless the home becomes unfit for habitation and no equivalent substitute can be obtained or the property and the entire length of stay reserved is re-booked at the same rate. If a portion of the rental time is re-booked at the same rate, a pro-rata refund will be made. All refunds of rental services payments, whether complete or pro-rata, will be subject to a deduction equal to as much as 20% of deposit(s) paid.
To protect against cancellations caused by certain unforeseen events, such as illness, we recommend that guests purchase travel insurance to assure refund of deposits paid.
Any CHANGES made to a booking after a confirmation has been issued will be assessed a $50.00 service fee. Acceptance of any change is subject to approval by Affordable Paradise and the homeowner.
This rental agreement is being entered into and shall be performed in the state of Hawaii, which shall be the proper venue for any legal proceedings concerning this agreement.
Affordable Paradise strongly recommends the purchase of travel insurance, as this will be the only way to recover deposits made and other expenses incurred should a cancellation become necessary.

CANCELLATION POLICY:
CANCELLATION after confirmation of booking results in forfeiture of the initial reservation deposit.
Cancellations received when a reservation is paid in full will be refunded on a prorate bases, based on our ability to rebook the canceled days, less the initial reservation deposit.

To protect your vacation, we do not overbook our rentals. In turn, we ask that you reserve an accommodation only for the dates you are willing to pay for.
Any changes made to a booking after a confirmation has been issued will be assessed a $50.00 alteration fee. Acceptance of any change is subject to approval by home owner / property manager.
Affordable Paradise role in any transaction is limited to being an intermediary between the Owner or Property Manager and the Traveler. We loved our week-long stay at the Barbara and James’ tucked-away guest quarters. It is 10 min walk from Kailua Beach Park and a 10 min walk to downtown Kailua. Perfect! The neighborhood is quiet, the quarters are clean and bright and the side yard outside has lovely plantings. We made good use of the provided beach towels, chairs, snorkel gear, and boogie boards. The kitchenette is nicely supplied, too, and the washer/dryer was much appreciated as we packed light. The portable drying rack was perfect for beach towels and swim gear. We will definitely be back at this property! Mahalo!

Barbara is a super owner and is willing to help newcomers with information and activities. We were delayed arriving on Christmas Eve. All of the grocery stores and restaurants were closed so we had to no food. Barbara graciously shared their Christmas dinner with us. It was delicious!! The apartment is nicely equipped, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. I would highly recommend renting this apartment for your stay in the Kailua area.

We stayed at the Hula Girl Cottage for a week and it couldn't have been more perfect. We rented a vehicle, and there was parking right on the property so we were never searching for a spot. The bed was very comfortable, and the rental was very spacious. It had everything you would need on vacation. We got a lot of use out of the beach chairs, beach towels, and cooler. If you want to cook, the kitchen was well stocked with appliances. The full size fridge also came in handy! The space was also very clean. It in a perfect location, as you can walk to the beach if you want; or walk to go out to eat. We never got to meet Barbara, but we met James when we arrived and before we left and he was very nice and made sure we had everything we need. When we come back to Hawaii we will definitely be coming back! It was an absolutely lovely place to spend our vacation!

We were blown away at how charming (and clean!) the Hula Girl Cottage was. It was the perfect size for our family (2 adults 1 toddler) but I could see it being a great fit for a larger family because of the pull out couch (which we used one night). Even though the unit was attached to the main house, it was very private and we never heard/were disturbed by our hosts (important for naptime!) The kitchenette and washer/dryer were a lifesaver on our stay. Every kitchen item and beach item we could have wanted was included in the house. Mr. & Mrs. Wilson are so friendly, and their dog Eddie is charming. The house is a 15ish minuet walk (with a stroller) to the shopping/grocery/commercial area of Kailua. There is a little park with a playground for kids across the street. And the beach is a 15ish minuets (again with a stroller) walk away!! We will be back!!

This was our first time stating outside of the Waikiki area. We were worried that this was too far away from all the shops and restaurants in Waikiki. But if you have a car, it's just a short drive. This unit is about 10min walk to the beach and 5min drive to stores and markets. Lanikai beach is also very close so we really enjoyed the location.
The unit also has everything we needed. When it was hot, the ceiling fan was enough and the high ceiling along with the natural breeze was very comfortable. I wish the bed was bigger, but it's very comfortable. Living in the residential area really made us feel like we live in Hawaii. The washer and dryer are very noisy, it didn't bother us, but we felt bad about doing laundry at night. We would definitely want to stay here again.

If you go in summer months, make sure to ask host about how to keep the air conditioning on. It was hot only a couple of days when I was there and the air conditioner stops working after few minutes. If I had reached out, I am sure they would have solved the problem, it was probably a technique I didn't know. The host was very helpful with any requests made. The solar heater works well and if you love super hot water like me, shower late afternoon, it is like Sauna. They provided plenty of beach towels, also some leis. They were very relaxed about any check out instructions. Enjoy your aloha! 🤙🤙

We had a wonderful stay at Barbara‘s! The apartment is so sweet and it immediately brought Hawaii feeling to us. Walking to the (most beautiful of the island!!!) Kailua beach was easily possible and Barbara‘s house supplied us with all necessary Beach ( including snorkelling) gear and her fully equipped household was very convenient as well. We would come back anytime!
A tip for all travellers: We would advise you to rent a car for your stay in Kailua to be able to explore the rest of the wonderful island.

We stayed a month in this cute Airbnb in Kailua. We loved the location. It is in a quiet neighborhood right between the beach and the adorable Kailua Town. Kailua beach is absolutely beautiful. The Airbnb is small but it was just perfect for two of us. The bedroom has a nice size closet with built-in dressers. There were 10 good size drawers and plenty of space to hang clothes as well. The shower was great and the bed was very comfortable. We loved that there was snorkel gear and beach chairs for us to use while we were there. Barbara was great and was quick to answer any questions we had.

Once you arrive you'll immediately be set at the best location there is in Kailua town, trust me in that as I was bitten and raised there. Thebest beach in the world, all the shopping in quaint Kailua town. This wonderful place feels like home the moment you walk in the door. There are plenty of water sports equipment at the house to use all the way down to beach towels. No need to pack much. And most of all its spotless. Take it from a local girl you won't be disappointed.

Great location as it is about a 10 to 15-minute walk to Kailua Beach and 25-minute walk to Lanikai Beach. Not too far away from the town. Space looks exactly like the photos so no surprises there. Had to pick up a bunch of little things (toilet paper, laundry detergent, coffee). Other than that, it was a great experience!

The Hula Girl Cottage was great! It was exactly as pictured and was in a great location. About a 10 min walk to the beach or to the main area of town. The cottage was also very private even though it’s attached to the hosts house. There are a lot of windows so a nice breeze comes through the space. We also had everything we needed for a beach day which was very nice and the kitchen was well stocked.

This is such a wonderful apartment - perfect for the two of us with a ample space for a short break away. Barbara is very quick to respond and was very accomodating when we weren't sure if we would make our flight due to hurricane Lane. Awesome location that is a short stroll from both the beach and town. Clean, well equipped and nicely private - we loved it!

Great place to stay in Kailua. Quick walk to downtown Kailua. Close and quick drive to Kailua beach park as well. Barbara and her family were kind and hospitable. And we felt like we had plenty of privacy as well. They were doing renovations to their backyard but were courteous and never worked in the morning or evening. Just goes to show how thoughtful they are regarding their quests. The space was clean and comfortable. Our party had 4 full adults and we were reasonably comfortable, we never felt cramped. Barbara made check in and check out easy and was always available by text if needed. I highly recommend her home for your next vacation to Kailua. Thanks Barbara and fam!

The cottage is clean, tastefully decorated, and exactly as described and pictured. The location is a short walk to the beach. However, unless you plan on doing nothing but the beach, as the description states, a car is strongly recommended.
Barbara was responsive to messages prior to our arrival and during our stay. However, she was returning from being out of the country when we checked in and the young man that was there didn't know much about the rental. We were not notified that this would be the case nor were we ever provided check-in instructions. Even when Barbara retuned she made no effort to come by and see if we had any questions. She lives on the property, yet we never met her during our 5 night stay.
If we hadn't read in other people's reviews about the beach gear available and then searched for it, we would not have known it was there. Other self check-in places we have stayed at provide a binder with instructions about available amenities, local things to do, and recommended places to eat, etc. This place has nothing.
Lastly, prior to making our reservation back in May, I inquired to see if the cottage had A/C. Barbara responded that they planned to have A/C in the cottage by the time we arrived in September. No mention of any additional charge and no follow-up prior to us arriving that it was in fact available. We inquired about the A/C with the young man that was there when we arrived but he knew nothing about it. When I messaged Barbara the next day she said they had a portable unit they would bring over for $25/day. It was very hot and humid our entire stay. So I paid an additional $100 for 4 days of A/C that only cooled one room.
Again the cottage is very nice and the description now states that the A/C is extra but we were very disappointed with the lack of hospitality.

The Hula Girl Cottage is fantastic! It is a 10-12 minute walk from Kailua Beach and an easy 20 minute walk from Lanikai Beach, both of which are so beautiful. It is also very easy to get into town for any essentials. I hope to come back sometime!

Thank you for Barbara for a wonderful stay, the accommodation location was perfect, the cottage was perfectly clean and cozy. Barbara thought of everything a vacationer could want during our stay. We enjoyed the bikes, the snorkeling gear, beach towels and all the other little thoughtful items in the home.
We walked everywhere including a 5 mile beach walk every morning, it was a beautiful beach and sweet little town.

I loved staying here. It’s cute and clean, like the photos show, and feels like it’s been recently remodeled. Nice kitchen and bath. Plenty of closet space, including two tall dressers in the bedroom closet. This cottage has all the beach amenities I wanted plus, thoughtfully, some other household items I have at home but which are rarely kept in rentals. (Thank you!) Great location. Close to the beach and town. It was fun riding the bikes around, and there are plenty of safe bike lanes. Kailua turned out to be a great location—fun things to do in town (including lounging at either of two amazing beaches, Kailua and Lanikai), close to the Pillbox Hike, plus ½ hour or less to the Makapuu Point lighthouse trail and the snorkeling at Hanauma Bay. Only about ½ hour into Honolulu but far away from the crowds. This is a great beach town to stay in without feeling overly touristic. And the price is so affordable I stayed for a week. It was one of those places where the longer I stayed, the longer I wanted to stay. Barbara, James and Eddie (their dog) are all friendly, while respecting my privacy. I can’t wait to come back.

The Hula Girl Cottage is located in a quiet neighbourhood and is very conveniently located to both Kailua and Lanikai Beaches and the shops of Kailua. We were two people and found the cottage quite comfortable except that the sofa bed in the sitting area is soft and lumpy. It was lovely and clean for our arrival. It is well fitted out for everything you will need to go to the beach. We enjoyed our stay very much.

This cottage is in a fantastic location (~10 min walk to beach and less than a mile to town), is beautifully decorated and was spotless upon arrival. It is on a quiet, residential street with a small playground just down the street. You can rent kayaks, grab delicious Bob’s Pizza, go to two markets and go to urgent care if needed, within a block of the beach. We didn’t use them, but 2 bikes are available for use as well. The bed is comfortable enough. My FIL slept on the pull-out bed and said it was quite comfortable. There is ample closet space including two large, built-in dressers, a rainfall shower head with other functionality that we didn’t use (no tub; bathroom is directly outside of the bedroom), bathroom and beach towels, a medium size fridge, and a washer/dryer (had issues during our stay but I’m sure they’ll be taken care of). My family of 4 stayed for 9 nights and we had 1 roll of paper towels and 3 rolls of toilet paper, pretty typical for Airbnbs. Barbara provided ample ground coffee for the coffee maker, which was fantastic. She is a prompt and thorough communicator, which was much appreciated - and was extremely responsive to a couple of messages that we sent during our stay.
We would highly recommend staying here, with two caveats. First, the couch is incredibly uncomfortable to sit on. In addition, while the policy of charging $15/day per extra guest beyond 2 is clearly outlined, it feels like robbery when you stay for 9 nights. We originally had only booked for 2 people but ended up bringing our daughter and FIL. 2 extra people for 9 nights equals an extra $270. Ouch. It seems like there could be a max rate for each extra guest, like $15 per day with a max of $60 for longer stays to cover the extra water. Anyway, not a surprise, but it was pretty painful.
Overall, stay here! You won’t regret it.

Tableware and cookware are also enriched of course, and that wouldn't be a problem.
I think I'd like to use here hard.
The chi lure is a very wonderful place. It is healed. In addition, I go by all means. And I borrow a house of Barbara again.

First, just let me say that Barbara and James are really nice and friendly people as well as their children. Barbara seems to be a little on the shy side while James is quite out going, a lot like me. Carol and I were there for thirteen days and Barbara had to leave for Germany on our 4th/5th day to help enroll her son in school there. She still has a very lovely German accent. Therefore, we weren’t able to get to know Barbara as well as we did James having had many conversations with him. James has been in Hawaii since he was eight years of age due to his Marine Corps father being assigned there from NC. So, we had that in common, his having spent time in NC. Carol and I are from Raleigh.
The “cottage” is just what it looks like in the photos. It’s not a cottage in the true sense in that it is an extension to their home. I think James said maybe a 1 ½ years old or so and is in very nice condition. We loved it…plenty of space, very high ceilings, large family room/kitchen space and a shower I truly miss. No a/c so if you go any time not in winter it will be warm…never bothered me much as I like warm weather. Lots of spaciously sized windows so there is a nice breeze most of the time. We were usually out during the daytime anyway. All in all the unit is well equipped. Might want to bring along a gfci adapter for the bathroom. We had to buy one at Target for Carol’s hair curler.
You will wake up early due to the early sunrise (no daylight saving time) and the large windows. If you’re looking for a really secluded, quiet, private location then this might not be for you. Otherwise, you can’t go wrong the “Hula Girl Cottage.” We would definitely stay there again.
The beach is an easy 10 minute walk away. I was there every day but one either by walking or driving if I had lots of stuff to carry. The parking is not an issue most of the time except maybe on weekends. There is a Target, Safeway and Whole Foods with lots of restaurants in town ½ mile or so away in Kailua. Easy drive. We drove down to Honolulu several times on the Pali Hwy. One of the most scenic drives you will ever experience.
We loved it and are still missing it several days later.

Seriously found nothing that wasn't completely clean and in good working order! Very comfortable, and very convenient to beaches and restaurants. Also, it only takes 20 minutes to drive to Honolulu, but Kailua has a great small-town feel. I felt more like a resident than a tourist. Barbara was very quick to reply to communication. Check-in was very easy. She was perfectly helpful as needed, but left me alone appropriately. Highly recommend this cottage!

Barbara’s charming, private cottage enabled me to enjoy Kailua to the fullest. Perfect space to relax, thoughtfully equipped with everything you need for any type of day you seek. Ocean breeze and natural light flows through each room from large, generous windows. I slept deeply in the comfortable bed; took indulgent naps on the equally comfortable sofa. Luxurious walk-in shower with stone flooring and spa-like shower options. The neighborhood is quiet yet close to everything. Communication with Barbara was extremely pleasant and easy. There is no other place in Kailua I would stay.

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Oahu and couldn't have been a better choice of where we stayed. Barbara's rental was true to what pictures showed- if not better. LOVED the shower, comfy bed, fully equipped kitchen. Very helpful to have a washer and dryer in the unit, cut my packing in half!
Great location, very close to Lanikai beach- one of my favorite beaches! On our last day we were able to squeeze in a visit before our flight, we went after breakfast- empty beach with some good snorkeling. Target, food land, and Whole Foods within 5 min.
Staying some where different than downtown/Waikiki was such a great decision, but staying at this rental made it an even better experience.

Location is excellent and they have two beach cruisers for use; very close to beach and park and town access. Apartment is very clean, very open and airy and minimalist. Kitchen is tiny - no oven, but there is a full size fridge and small coffee maker and filters and mugs and plates and cutting board and good knives and utensils. TV has cable and the couch is very comfy for relaxing at night. Windows all open up and allow for good breeze throughout. There is a stackable washer/dryer unit that works great and detergent is provided. Bathroom is very clean, and the shower gets very hot and has awesome pressure and a wonderful fixture. Bed is very comfortable and linens are soft. The place really allows for relaxation as there is not a lot of clutter and the colors are beachy and soothing and the location is very nice. Not a lot of stress here. Hosts are very warm and welcoming and make everything easy. I would highly recommend staying here.

Super clean and comfortable place! Loved the neighborhood. It's about a 1/2 mile from Kailua beach park. Easily walkable and they provide a bike which I used every day to ride around the town and to the beach. In a residential neighborhood so it was mostly quiet. The kitchen is well equipped, lovely shower and bathroom, very comfortable bed and nice living room with most tv channels if you feel like staying in and watching a show. The only issue is that it is very close to the next door neighbors, so the outside area doesn't feel that private. That being said, Barbara and James are most hospitable and friendly hosts! I would definitely rent again next time I'm on Oahu.

We had an amazing stay at the Turtle Cottage. The place was adorable, very homey feel, a lot of useful amenities (washer/dryer, stove top, toaster, fridge, on site parking, beach chairs, roomy closet, etc). It’s in the perfect location to give you the local feel. Walking distance from Kailua beach, short drive to Lanakai beach, walking distance to the shops/ restaurants in town. Overall it’s a central location for Oahu because you can easily drive down to Honolulu or up to the north shore for a variety of hikes and beaches. The street was quaint, and had a beautiful mountain view, and a little park. I would 10/10 come stay here again or recommend anyone else to stay here. Absolutely loved my time at the Turtle cottage and never wanted to leave.

3.0Noisy but nice
LOCATION: Turtle Cottage is located close to Kailua Beach as well as walking distance to shops and restaurants, so we'd give it 4 stars for location. The neighborhood is safe and the unit has great air flow. We were there all of January 2022 and did not need air conditioning. Hawaii is expensive, but this unit is priced appropriately.
ENVIRONMENT: If you are looking for peace and quiet, this place gets 2 stars. We stayed for 30 days and it should be noted that Turtle cottage shares a wall with the main house where there are permanent renters who have 2 small active children. The walls are thin, and the open windows means you hear everything. There is really no outside space that is private.
AMENITIES: There is a shared internet connection (slow) and a shared solar hot water heater. The TV has basic cable and no streaming capability. The kitchenette is fine for making breakfast and lunch, but any other cooking is challenging. The bed is comfy, but the linens and pillows should be replaced. The unit has a washer/dryer stack unit. Couch is ok but not super comfy.
OVERALL: We give this unit a FAIR/3 star rating because of the location and the fact that it provided a basic place to sleep. We were lucky enough to have friends nearby, so we spent a lot of time at their place cooking and relaxing.

My fiance and I stayed at Turtle Cottage for about 4 months. It was the perfect location in Kailua, equidistant to the public beach access and Kailua Town (~10 minutes of walking). Overall a very walkable location and accessible to other parts of the island by car, or even the nearby bus stops. Barbara and James were extremely accommodating and communicative our entire stay, checking in on us multiple times to make sure we were all set. The space itself was the perfect size with generous storage in the bedroom closet (with drawers), linen closet and kitchen cabinets. All cookware and dinnerware was provided for us and although it is not a full kitchen with an oven, the counter-top stove was great for cooking any and all meals. In addition to regular linens being provided, beach towels and chairs were also provided and we did not have to worry about purchasing Hawaii beach essentials! The shower was also very spacious and updated. I highly recommend this stay. Thank you Barbara and James!

Short walk to the most spectacular beach which we shared with swimmers, sunbathers, wind and kitesurfers. There were beach towels, beach chairs and a water toy or two available for our use.
The cottage itself was fresh and attractive, clean and comfortable. Cooking options were modest but covered basic needs. Would have appreciated a few basic toiletries (shampoo etc) and kitchen supplies (salt, pepper, cooking oil).
Would definitely recommend a stay at Turtle Cottage in Kailua.

My wife and I loved the stay. Everything was true to the description of the rental property. Very clean, bed was super comfy, TV had many channels to choose from, nice kitchen. The washer and dryer came in handy. Beautiful beaches close by, in walking distance. We traveled most of the island and Kailua and Lanikai was our favorite areas. The rental is very close to shopping and restaurants. The owners were super nice, they made you feel at home. Can’t say enough nice things about our experience staying at The Hula Girl, we definitely want to come back very soon! We miss it already!

We hit the jackpot with The Hula Girl Cottage! We had never been to Kailua before and this was the perfect place to stay for our little family. Awesome cottage, within walking distance to the beach and restaurants. My husband and I slept in the bedroom and our two kids had the pullout couch. We loved all of the extras they had: 4 boogie boards, 2 beach chairs and a couple of snorkels with fins. We loved sitting out on the little patio and having coffee in the morning or dinner in the evening and enjoying the beautiful weather. We also commented on how big and nice the shower was for a small cottage. We had an amazing week and will definitely be back to do it all over again!

We loved our week-long stay at Barbara and James’ tucked-away guest quarters. It is 10 min walk from Kailua Beach Park and a 10 min walk to downtown Kailua. Perfect! The neighborhood is quiet, the quarters are clean and bright, and the side yard outside has lovely plantings. We made good use of the provided beach towels, chairs, snorkel gear, and boogie boards. The kitchenette is nicely supplied, too, and the washer/dryer was much appreciated as we packed light. The portable drying rack was perfect for beach towels and swim gear. 5.0Great Place, Great Location
What a beautiful, cozy place for our week in Oahu. It was the perfect launching pad for our daily excursions. Ten minute walk to Kailua Beach--which is beautiful. Ten minute walk to downtown Kailua with some great restaurants. And the accommodations were bright, clean, cheerful and homey. Loved it all.

We so enjoyed our stay in the Hula Girl Cottage. Barbara has made the cottage very comfortable, with everything you need away from home. The location was perfect too, close to shopping, restaurants, and most importantly, the beach! Thank you!

We have been travelling to the Hawaiian Islands for many years but this is the best we have ever seen. Barbara is such a charming person and she put so much emphasis on details and colors. The cleanliness and the decors are incredible. We highly recommend this cottage. Next time we stay longer.

4.0Great place! Lacked basic information and instructions.
The cottage is clean, tastefully decorated, and exactly as described and pictured. The location is a short walk to the beach. However, unless you plan on doing nothing but the beach, as the description states, a car is strongly recommended.
Barbara was responsive to messages prior to our arrival and during our stay. However, she was returning from being out of the country when we checked in and the young man that was there didn't know much about the rental. We were not notified that this would be the case nor were we ever provided with check-in instructions. Even when Barbara retuned she made no effort to come by and see if we had any questions. She lives on the property, yet we never met her during our 5 night stay.
If we hadn't read in other people's reviews about the beach gear available and then searched for it, we would not have known it was there. Other self check-in places we have stayed at provide a binder with instructions about available amenities, local tours, and recommended places to eat, etc. This place has nothing.
Lastly, prior to making our reservation back in May, I inquired to see if the cottage had A/C. Barbara responded that they planned to have A/C in the cottage by the time we arrived in September. No mention of any additional charge and no follow-up prior to us arriving that it was in fact available. We inquired about the A/C with the young man that was there when we arrived but he knew nothing about it. When I messaged Barbara the next day she said they had a portable unit they would bring over for $25/day. It was very hot and humid our entire stay. So I paid an additional $100 for 4 days of A/C that only cooled one room.
Again the cottage is very nice and the description now states that the A/C is extra. But we were very disappointed with the lack of hospitality.

4.0Great week with daughter
We liked the Hula Girl very much--clean, roomy, convenient to town (with no car for first few days) and well-supplied cottage. (Cute lamp) Our privacy respected, so had long dinners and talk with our daughter who has lived on the islands for over 10 years, so we had the "quality time" we rarely get in phone calls. Wife left necklace behind but staff found it--thanks. Only concern, no A/C. On humid, 90 degree days would have been appreciated.

5.0New favorite spot
The unit was close(10 min walk) to one of the best beaches on Oahu and stores. We felt at home and enjoyed our vacation even more being at this location. There are a nearby park and many markets and restaurants. The ceiling fan was great so that we can enjoy the natural breeze even in the afternoon. Owners were very thoughtful and we didn't mind the attached unit.

We had a great stay at the hula girl cottage! Everything was just as pictured. The place very clean and well equipped with kitchen and beach supplies. The neighbourhood was quiet and within walking distance to the beach and shops. I’d absolutely recommend to anyone!

5.0Hübsches Zuhause auf Zeit, gute Lage zwischen Stadt und Strand. Uns fehlte an nichts.
Wir hatten einen wunderbaren Aufenthalt im schön möblierten und gut ausgestatteten Hula Girl Cottage in Kailua. Die Nachbarschaft ist ruhig und die Lage des Apartments hervorragend. In Gehdistanz zur Stadt wie auch zum bekannten Kailua- und Lanikai Strand. Ausserdem stehen auch Fahrräder und ein Parkplatz vor der Türe zur Verfügung. Die Gastgeber sind sehr nett und ermöglichten uns einen rundum gelungenen Aufenthalt. Herzlichen Dank, wir würden jederzeit wieder kommen und können The Hula Girl Cottage empfehlen.

5.0Wonderful stay at the Hula girl cottage
Thank you for Barbara for a wonderful stay, the accommodation location was perfect, the cottage was perfectly clean and cozy. Barbara thought of everything a vacationer could want during our stay. We enjoyed the bikes, the snorkeling gear, beach towels and all the other little thoughtful items in the home.
We walked everywhere including a 5 mile beach walk every morning, it was a beautiful beach and sweet little town.

5.0Perfect family getaway!!
The Hula Girl Cottage was absolutely perfect for our family of four. A great homebase to all our sightseeing. We had two small children and the house was well equipped with all our needs. Barbara even allowed us to move a glass table out of the living area into storage to accommodate our kids. The beach was a 10 min walk. Gorgeous! Make sure you snorkel at Lanakai. It was awesome!!!! Snorkeling gear is provided at the cottage! Can’t wait to return!

5.0Cute, clean, great location and fun beach town
I loved staying here. It’s cute and clean, like the photos show, and feels like it’s been recently remodeled. Nice kitchen and bath. Plenty of closet space, including two tall dressers in the bedroom closet. This cottage has all the beach amenities I wanted plus, thoughtfully, some other household items I have at home but which are rarely kept in rentals. (Thank you!) Great location. Close to the beach and town. It was fun riding the bikes around, and there are plenty of safe bike lanes. Kailua turned out to be a great location—fun things to do in town (including lounging at either of two amazing beaches, Kailua and Lanikai), close to the Pillbox Hike, plus ½ hour or less to the Makapuu Point lighthouse trail and the snorkeling at Hanauma Bay. Only about ½ hour into Honolulu but far away from the crowds. This is a great beach town to stay in without feeling overly touristic. And the price is so affordable I stayed for a week. It was one of those places where the longer I stayed, the longer I wanted to stay. Barbara, James and Eddie (their dog) are all friendly, while respecting my privacy. I can’t wait to come back.
