Great inexpensive alternative to condos and resorts. Nice room minutes from the beach. Private entrance, bath, fridge and microwave. Clean and well maintained.

Pros: Clean, simple room with everything we needed in a good location. Walking distance to the beach and restaurants. Bathroom was very nice. Great to have dishes/coffee maker to prepare our own breakfasts. Nice little lanai.

Cons: Minimal privacy. The room next to us was booked and every time they came back from an evening out, used their lanai, or even used the bathroom, it seemed as if they were right in our bedroom. Sound carries very easily.

Close to town & beach

This was a very convenient, comfortable place. Brenda was very nice - it was Thanksgiving while we were there & she brought us a big plate of yummy food! It isn't really big, but having the lanai with table and chairs makes it work. For the price, this place is excellent.

I can't say enough great things about my stay here! Total paradise. My husband and I stayed for a week and the Awakea room had everything we needed. They even supplied us with beach towels for the beach. They have cable TV so my hubby didn't miss his sports while we were on vacation. AND the bed was so nice, just plush and comfortable which was a wonderful surprise. Coffee was extra yummy too. Loved sitting out on the Lanka with my coffee in the mornings. Plus the town and beach are both walking distane. Very nice perfect place to stay I will be back! Oh Rom had A/C but I an from Arizona so wasn't needed. Just loved the accommodations and privacy.

Quiet and pleasant stay

My husband and I spent 4 nights in Kailua and our stay at Brenda's was quiet and pleasant. Our room was small, clean, and had everything we needed; a fridge (with a not so good freezer), few dishes and cups as well as a very reliable wifi network. It could be warm (the room doesn't have an AC unit), but it should be alright when the windows are kept open and the ceiling fan on. The bathroom was spotless and the number of towels provided was sufficient for our stay, plus Brenda kindly provided beach towels. We also could park our rental car on Brenda's property which was very useful, especially on the 4th of July. We were away most of the day and also part of the evening so the room was perfect for us.
In the beginning we feared that we would become uncomfortable due to plausible lack of privacy since the room's access and window are the same (a french window at the rear of the house), but this ended up not being an issue as there was no traffic on that part of the house; we were the only ones using it.
The house is very conveniently located 10 min walk from the beach and few more minutes from shops, restaurants and groceries in downtown.
We would definitely recommend Awakea room for anyone needing a foothold to explore the Eastern part of Oahu or to make day trips to other parts of the island.

I was very pleased with our room. It was very clean and bed comfy. The price was really good. Laundry facilities easy to access. The area was just right for us as we had family living fairly close. We would definitely consider staying there again.

We really enjoyed our stay in the "Awakea Bedroom". It was located within walking distance of the beach, restaurants, and shopping area. The room itself was a good size with a very nice washroom. Our stay was made much easier by everyone's helpfulness when we had any questions.

Convenient, quiet and no hassle.

We normally had five cars parked at this address each night, but felt like we were alone as we never heard anyone else around. We had a rental car and found this to be an excellent location to visit Oahu from. The Honolulu traffic seemed to be at a crawl almost any time of the day, so it was refreshing to be in Kailua where traffic moved normally 99% of the time. The adjacent bedroom unit was under remodel construction, so it appears upgrades are part of the future here. We recommend this unit!

The location is perfect. I was able to walk to Kailua Beach Park and Lanikai. The bathroom had been completely redone and is very nice. Having a washer and dryer on the property made my trip much easier. Brenda was very helpful and nice.

I would come back with my family here again .

Perfect location, just not so good value for money

Awakea bedroom was located in a perfect spot, only 10minutes walk to the beach. However, I believe that in comparison with other places we've stayed on the island or on the big island, it was too expensive. For a small room like that, with kind of old decoration, old curtains, old bathroom, old microwave, I believe it's worth more 75-85 dollars a night. We did not receive also an email of confirmation a couple days before arriving, so I had no clue of the address of the place, so communication was not the best but it worked out in the end.

Lovely room, friendly owner, everything perfect!

We spent a lovely relaxing 4 days in Kailua and the room certainly helped. Nice and chilled - and that's saying quite a lot when there's a 4 month baby in the equation!

Thanks a lot.

Front Awekea Bedroom Basic Room, Close to Beach and Restaurants

Review from: Guest from Sunnyvale, CA

Date of Stay: February 2013

Someone forgot to lock the adjoining door which led to the other Awakea Bedroom next door so we were initially concerned of the security. I had to call Brenda. She was friendly and accommodating and she came with the key to lock the door. The place was safe with no incidents. She also brought a hair dryer which we requested. Near the end of our stay she provided us a map to the local recycling center where we were able to redeem the deposit for all our cans and bottles. All interior door locks were broken so you can't lock the bathroom door or the door from the bedroom to the small hallway between the bedroom and bathroom. I mentioned this to Brenda who didn't realized that so maybe they'll get fixed in the future. We had a nice stay and found the bed comfortable. The bathroom fixtures were 70's style. The ceiling fan was quiet and we needed to use the air conditioner around 3 pm in the afternoon when it got hot and the winds died down. If you're going to be in the room in the middle of the afternoon you may need the front bedroom which has the air conditioner (back bedroom has no air conditioner). Otherwise the breezy wind through the window and the ceiling fan was good enough. We had plates, bowls, cups, utensils, a can opener, and small plastic cutting board to use. There was a microwave, small refrigerator with little freezer (little ice tray provided to make ice cubes), a coffee maker and toaster. There was an iron in the closet but no ironing board. We didn't need to use the iron as it was easy to wet the wrinkles on our clothes and it would be dry and wrinkle free by morning. The place was clean but the cleaning people have not dusted for quite some time the top of the container which contained coffee which was very dusty. The location is very convenient and a short 10 minute walk to the beach. It was also a short walk to restaurants. You can find a cheap lunch or dinner at The Habachi at 515 Kailua Rd where it's a little market that has marinated meats. You can get a bbq chicken plate with rice and salad (or substitute for kim chee or pickled cucumbers) for only $5.95 or teriyaki rib eye plate for $6.95. They'll cook it on the bbq when you order it. The map in the room which showed a bunch of the local businesses was very helpful to find Safeway, Whole Foods and restaurants. Guests may want to bring their own bars of soap for the shower since only one bottle of liquid handsoap was provided.

Hevenly the basics you need for a comfortable stay in Kailua. Most of my time was spent outside of Awakea bedroom, but when I needed to sleep or shower (or do laundry) it had everything I needed.

I would have appreciated a small map of the area, with directions to the beach, shops, etc.
Otherwise it was very suitable for my requirements. Quiet and easy walking distance to amenities and beaches.
