It’s hard to say what you’ll find most appealing about SandSurf Cottage, but it might be that it is just two short blocks from Kailua Beach, rated among the tops in the U.S. Kailua Beach, which is on the windward side of Oahu, boasts two and a half miles of soft white sand that curves around a bay of clear, warm turquoise water. The beach access path is not apparent from the road, so our portion of the beach is never crowded.
SandSurf cottage is at the rear of our tropically-landscaped property, assuring our guests privacy and blissful quiet. The cottage has a small lanai with deck chairs and an outdoor dining table resting under a fragrant plumeria tree. Inside the sliding glass doors you’ll find a queen size bed, a ceiling fan, two bamboo-framed easy chairs, a dresser, a wicker etage, and a TV and DVD player.Internet wi-fi.
Next to the closet is a bathroom with tiled shower, an exhaust fan, and ventilated skylight. There are also two skylights above the bed and lots of windows to catch the trade winds.
The kitchenette has well-stocked oak cabinets and a tile counter, stainless sink with disposal, a microwave and a full-size refrigerator/freezer. You’ll find lots of electric appliances: kettle, griddle, hot plate, toaster oven, blender, coffee maker, bean grinder, and waffle iron. A bistro table and two chairs enable you to eat indoors. If you’d rather not cook, we are within six blocks of all of Kailua’s restaurants—which include a range of prices (more at the low end than the high) and a range of ethnicities—Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican, Italian, and even Moroccan. Also within walking distance are bus stops, public tennis courts and a huge pool, lovely gift and clothing shops and our beloved Long’s, where you can find everything from inexpensive souvenirs to wine.
Our front yard includes an off-street parking spot for guest’s use which is surrounded by palm trees and blooming plants. Next to our front door is an orchid garden.
Guests are welcomed with a fruit basket and continental breakfast for their first morning. Standard check-in is 3 o’clock and check-out is 11 am. We do our best to accommodate special check-out needs.
Beach "equipment" for guests’ use includes snorkeling gear, boogie boards, beach chairs, mats, and umbrellas; also insulated bags and coolers. Honolulu and Chinatown, the airport, Waikiki, Pearl Harbor, and Hanauma Bay are all from 25 to 35 minutes’ drive. The North Shore would take about 45 minutes.
